Psyche

The Psyche is the mind of an individual organism.

History

In ancient Greek, psyche meant breath or life, the animating principle in man and other living beings, the source of all vital activities, rational or irrational, the soul or spirit, as distinct from its material vehicle, the body, soma. Psyche is by definition the subject matter of Psychology.

In CHAT, ‘psyche’ is used synonymously with ‘consciousness’, but has the advantage connoting an individual mind rather than a general substance or state. A psyche may also be imputed to simple living organisms without any implication that the organism has awareness, intellect or any other particular psychological faculty.
